OCEAN GROVE BOWLING CLUB
Ocean Grove Bowling Club, set on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula, has taken a bold step forward. The club now features two brand-new 36m × 36m synthetic bowling greens, delivered in partnership with MakMax. While MakMax created the impressive roof structure, we installed the latest GG3 underlay and carpet surfaces, ensuring both innovation and compliance with Australian Bowls Standards.
From the very beginning, we focused on careful site preparation. First, the team cleared the area and installed drainage to manage water flow. Then, using precise laser grading, we built strong foundations for both greens. After we fitted the GG3 underlay and tightly-woven carpet, two competition-ready greens took shape—each designed for resilience and ease of care.
Now, with MakMax’s dome overhead, members and visitors can enjoy bowls in any weather. These upgrades offer not just reliable facilities, but also a welcoming place for play, connection, and community for many years to come.
BEFORE & DURING BOWLING GREEN CONSTRUCTION
As heavy machinery arrives, our team quickly implements safety measures and marks out the carefully surveyed base. Crews get to work right away, setting up a secure and well-organised compound to prepare for the upcoming upgrade.
Next, we shape the sub-base with precision to achieve the essential hip and valley profile. At the same time, we lay mega flow drains and strip footings in a systematic order. Afterward, layers of geo-fabric and crushed rock go down, building a foundation ready for the future.
Soon, a wide gravel area spreads out in front of the new roofed structure. We move materials and equipment into place, set up safety barriers, and finalise construction planning as we start groundwork for the greens.
Meanwhile, our crews install drainage, footings, and sub-base layers. Each element adds strength and accuracy, supporting the future greens with care.
The compacted rock surface is prepped for its next phase, with sandbags and green turf sections awaiting installation. Marking steady progress towards completion.
Specialist teams set new block walls and timber rails, meticulously chamfered for smooth play. Ditch turf is expertly fitted, establishing crisp boundaries and safe edges around the green.
AFTER BOWLING GREEN CONSTRUCTION
The moment arrives for laying premium GG3 underlay and woven carpet. Crews work with care and discipline, finishing the surface to a tolerance of less than +/-3mm—ready for competitive bowls in all seasons.
The two pristine, synthetic greens stretch out under MakMax’s striking dome. Lush surfaces, line-marked and competition-ready, now offer a welcoming arena for members and visitors alike—rain or shine.
With the works complete and every detail checked, the upgraded facility is formally handed over. Ocean Grove Bowling Club celebrates its new home of bowls: modern, low-maintenance, and ready for community connection for many years to come.
