synthetic lawn bowls green q&a
Bioscapes Group answer some commonly asked questions about our synthetic lawn bowls greens. Learn more about this surface with answers from our expert team!
What is the construction time?
Rescreed: 15 days
Top 35mm rebuild: 20 days
Full rebuild: 25 – 30 days
Brand new construction ground out: 25 – 30 days
What build methodology do you use?
We build to Australian Bowls Standards while testing and measuring through each stage of the build.
What maintenance is required?
Woven carpet: 3mm thick meaning it doesn’t retain much water. Bi-annual servicing required to treat algae.
Needle punch carpet: Retains more moisture as it is 8mm thick meaning it potentially faces higher rates of algae growth. Bi-annual servicing required to treat algae.
Sand filled: Sand filled bowling greens have three areas of maintenance:
- Grooming. (Sand needs to be groomed depending on usage and weather conditions.)
- Irrigation. (Irrigation system required to stabilise base if it was build by another company that doesn’t use bonded base technology. Watering also needed to prevent roster tailing experienced with sand filled – monofilament single fibre, KDK looped keeps sand in.)
- Weeding. (weed growth can occur due to the sand infill use in these bowling greens. If it is a bonded base this prevents weed growth from occurring to an extent.)
All synthetic greens experience algae growth, no different to natural greens, so bi-annual servicing is the most minimal level of maintenance required.
What is the lead time on carpet?
Synthetic sand filled: 3-4 weeks from receipt of purchase
Woven: 3 months from receipt of purchase
Needle punch: 4 months from receipt of purchase
How much money would it save us?
Our clients experience savings of $35,000 + after converting to a synthetic surface.
What benching heights do you require for a ground out build?
400-450 below RL which is the top of ditch wall that marries up to surrounding pathways.
What is the initial speed of the woven carpet when it is first laid?
Woven carpet: Initial speed on first installation – estimated 14.5 seconds.
6-12 month wear in period – green to run between 14.5 and 15.2 seconds (weather & wind dependant). The green is designed to run at less than 16 seconds for the life of the surface (also weather and wind dependant).
Needle punch carpet: 14.5 seconds but can experience inconsistency with these greens speeds with changing weather conditions (clouding, heat, wet) as the polypropylene blend is influenced by these.
Synthetic sand filled carpet: 13 seconds, dependant on the amount of sand infill. Can be made faster with additional sand.
